COURSES

  • Foundations of Health Science

This course is an introductory course, usually recommended for freshman. This class introduces students to healthcare concepts including the history of healthcare, medical terminology, trends, agencies, professions, and finances.

  • Health Science I

This course is usually recommended for sophomores or higher. The curriculum consists of anatomy and physiology of the human body. Students learn the structure and function of the body. Students examine diseases and the treatments healthcare professionals prescribe. Students will become certified in First Aid through the American Heart Association.

**Honors is an option.

  • Health Science II

The prerequisite for this course is Health Science I. In this class, students explore how to obtain a job in healthcare along with the different classifications of healthcare careers. Students gain certifications such as CPR, OSHA, Blindness Prevention and Blood-borne Pathogens.

** Honors is an option.

  • Nursing Fundamentals

This class is available for juniors and seniors. Health Science I and II are prerequisites. This course prepares the student to take the NC Nurse Aide Exam and obtain a nursing assistant certification. After completing the classwork and 151 skill acquisition, students participate in a 40 hour clinical training in a long-term care facility. Then students register and prepare for their state nurse aide exam with a state evaluator. Students may work as a Nurse Aide I in a healthcare setting after completion of this class. This class is a honors class.
